Official Microsoft Store Launch for Windows x64
SwiftLocal is now available free on Microsoft Store for Windows 10 and Windows 11 (x64) with all core local processing engines bundled out of the box.
New Features
Published the official Windows x64 Microsoft Store release (0.4.1) with bundled FFmpeg, Tesseract OCR, QPDF, LibreOffice, yt-dlp and Deno—no separate runtime setup required.
Isolated the Microsoft Store application profile for clean local preferences, saved presets and task history management.
User-Facing Improvements
Refined Windows PDF “Open with” registration and uninstall cleanup so your existing default PDF reader and peer PDF apps remain untouched.
Important Fixes
Fixed a LibreOffice conversion failure when working inside deep Windows AppData or long Unicode output folders by using bounded private scratch directories.
Hardened the batch-rename PowerShell script export to use literal filename encoding.
Important Notes
Install SwiftLocal from its official Microsoft Store listing on Windows x64. Snugzap does not offer a direct executable download.

Chinese Path OCR Reliability & Non-Intrusive PDF Open With
Improved OCR reliability on Windows accounts with Chinese or non-ASCII folder paths, refined Windows Explorer “Open with” integration, and locked bundled engine versions.
User-Facing Improvements
Registered an independent SwiftLocal.PDF handler so SwiftLocal appears in Windows Explorer’s “Open with” menu for PDF files without overriding your default PDF reader.
Locked bundled Windows engines with archive verification (FFmpeg, QPDF, Tesseract OCR with chi_tra + eng, and LibreOffice) and updated the desktop runtime.
Important Fixes
Fixed an issue where Windows usernames, installation paths or temp directories containing Chinese or non-ASCII characters prevented Tesseract from locating chi_tra + eng language data during text OCR and searchable PDF generation.

Images-to-PDF Builder, Searchable PDF OCR Fix & Workspace Hardening
First stable Windows x64 release introducing JPG/PNG-to-PDF creation, bundled searchable PDF OCR fixes, and stronger multi-tab document safety.
New Features
Images to PDF: combine JPG and PNG images into a PDF document with drag-and-drop page ordering, original image dimensions or A4 page sizing, and configurable margins.
User-Facing Improvements
Locked active PDF workspace edits while asynchronous saves or page rebuilds are running so switching tabs cannot write changes into the wrong document.
Restricted PDF signature image imports explicitly to PNG and JPEG formats and escaped spreadsheet formula prefixes during CSV exports.
Important Fixes
Restored bundled Tesseract configuration and font directories required for Traditional Chinese and English (chi_tra + eng) searchable PDF output.
Prevented temporary OCR files or failed Office conversion cleanup from overwriting or removing existing files in the output folder.

Dedicated PDF Workspace, Five Core Workspaces & Public Media URL Tool
Pre-release milestone series (v0.4.0-alpha through v0.4.0-alpha.4, July–August 2026) that established the five-workspace structure and the multi-tab PDF reader and editor.
New Features
Dedicated PDF Workspace: non-locking multi-tab PDF reader, AcroForm form filling, visual signature image and date-stamp placement, drag-and-drop page organization, and in-memory encrypted PDF password prompts.
Five Core Workspaces: organized the app around PDF, OCR, Office, Images and Media alongside My Saved Presets and More Tools.
Public Media URL tool & media presets: added single public URL inspection and download options (720p/1080p video, MP3 audio extraction) plus one-click local presets for email compression, clip trimming and GIF creation.
User-Facing Improvements
Preserved signature images, date stamps and page rotations across page reordering, and checked all open PDF tabs for unsaved changes before closing.
Improved OCR preprocessing for Windows UI screenshots and mixed Traditional Chinese / English captures.
Important Fixes
Upgraded the PDF rendering engine and explicitly disabled embedded PDF scripting across all viewing and rendering paths.
Important Notes
Signature placement embeds visual signature images (PNG/JPEG) rather than cryptographic digital certificates. Complex AcroForm documents should be filled and saved before reordering or deleting pages.

Global Task Centre, Multi-Step Workflows & Local Engine Foundation
Early desktop pre-releases (May–July 2026) that introduced the Global Task Centre, chained workflows, PDF-to-Office conversions and non-destructive output naming.
New Features
Global Task Centre & workflow resume: monitor, cancel, retry or duplicate background jobs in one place, and resume failed multi-step workflows from the failed step.
OCR, Office & media foundations: page-by-page PDF OCR to text, LibreOffice Office-to-PDF, best-effort PDF-to-Word (DOCX), and bitrate, resolution and trim controls for audio and video.
User-Facing Improvements
Added preflight checks for disk space and local engines, automatic (2) / (3) output file numbering to prevent silent overwrites, and zero persistence of PDF passwords in task history.
